Getting Here

Rushden Transport Museum is located at:

Rushden Station, Station Approach, Rushden, Northants NN10 0AW.

By car, the museum is sign posted from the A6 towards Rushden.

There is no parking on site, but there is ample town centre parking within ¼ to ½ mile away.  Disabled parking may be made available on site by prior arrangement.

Trains: the nearest mainline station is Wellingborough – 5 miles

Buses: Bus services from Northampton and Wellingborough town centre – Stagecoach X46/X47 to Asda store 100 yards from Rushden Station.

Bus Service from Bedford and Kettering – Stagecoach 49/50

Getting around the museum which is on one level:

You will be greeted with an introduction to the museum layout, or alternatively there is a floor plan with our hot spots highlighted available for independent exploration.

There is wheelchair access to the museum via the slope at the end of the station building, but there are no wheelchairs available on site and Rushden does not operate a Shop Mobility Scheme. All rooms of the museum are accessible to wheel chairs but not as a through route.

Facilities

Toilets:

Toilets including disabled access and baby changing facilities are available on site, situated at the far end of the building past the bar.

Dogs:

Assistance/support dogs are welcome, and water bowls are available on request, please be aware that there is a Station Cat in attendance.

Shop:

Currently the museum does not have items for sale, however on event days the Buffer Stop Shop sells a variety of goods.

Food and Drink:

The award winning bar is available to members of the Society.  Visitors can enjoy the bar on open/event days and on other days they can be signed in by a member for a small charge.  Please refer to published opening times to avoid disappointment.

The Buffet Car café is only open on events dates and by prior arrangement.  However the High Street has several cafés within easy walking distance and Asda supermarket is just across the road.

Photography

You are at liberty to take photographs without flash of the museum building and collection at no charge for your private use.  Commercial photography and filming may incur a charge so please contact the secretary of RHTS on 01933 624157.

Visitor Surveys

We appreciate your feedback after your visit and we will ask you to complete a very short survey form, that you can then post in a collection box. If contact details are included the survey forms are entered into a draw to win a family ticket on an event train ride, except Santa Specials; your details are never passed on to third parties.

The museum is open

  • from April to October
  • Most Fridays between 14.00 and 16.00 (Please check before hand on 07948169935)
  • Saturdays between 14.00 and 16.00
  • Sundays between 11.00 and 16.00
  • During RHTS events and open days between 11.00 and 16.00
  • Other times, for groups, can be arranged by prior appointment

Admission to the museum is free, although donations to help us in our work and development are always appreciated.
